Course Description
The themes and topics covered in this academic course are:
- Volcanoes in New Zealand and around the World -a comprehensive and an in-depth study of the locations and causes of the major volcanic eruptions in NZ, the Pacific region and around the world.
- Population Studies – a comprehensive study of the population concepts such census, population growth and diversity, population distribution and sustainability and patterns and reasons for migration.
- Natural Processes – a detailed study of Auckland’s Volcanoes (the formation of these volcanoes, eruption timeline) and the natural processes such as the denudation processes (that modified these volcanic landforms)
Field Trips (Mandatory):
- Pokeno Residential Development and Lakes Residential Subdivision in Te Kauwhata (Term 2)
- Auckland Museum – Volcanoes Gallery, walk to Mt Eden crater, Mangere Volcanic Zone and the Bombay Hills.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
