Course Description
Geography is the study of people and their interaction with the natural and cultural environment. It Impacts on your everyday life in terms of interaction, perceptions and viewpoints, and values and beliefs. The concepts and basic skills taught in the Geography syllabus can be applied to a wide range of career options, academic disciplines and lifelong learning and education.
The topics and themes covered in this course are: Extreme Natural Events, Earthquakes in New Zealand (Christchurch) and Volcanoes (Pacific Ring of Fire or any global occurrence), Population Concepts (Population New Zealand and Monsoon Asia - China and India), Geographic topic at a global scale (a global pandemic or earthquakes), a contemporary New Zealand geographic issue (a current issue affecting the Franklin district and/or the North Island) and sustainable use of the environment (will focus on mining and dairy industries in New Zealand).
Field Trip: Martha Mine, Waihi
