Year 9 Metal Technology

Course Description

Metal Technology is a five-years course of study, starting in Year 9 and following through to Year 13. This pathway allows students to continue their course of study at tertiary level concentrating on Mechanical Engineering Technology or get in work - based qualifications straight from school.

The Year 9 Technology course is an engaging and hands-on exploration of Metal Technology, with a focus on Metal Work. Students will be introduced to various metalworking processes, techniques, and safety protocols. The course aims to provide a solid foundation in metalworking skills and learn valuable skills that will set them up for the following year - sketching, product design, and an appreciation for New Zealand designers in the global context.

During the course students will make a small tray out of sheet metal involving many skills. They will do a comprehensive health and safety course to enable them to use all the hand tools and machinery in the workshop. This is a fast-paced, exciting course that will engage any student with an interest in how and why the things around them are designed and produced.
